Legendary Chicago defense attorney Ed Genson delivered his typical forceful yet folksy opening statement/rebuttal. The physical frailties that afflict Genson belie the tenacity and force of his intellect and spirit. Black chose well, especially as a foil to his usual counsel Ed Greenspan, a patrician and debonair Toronto barrister (who bears an off-putting resemblance to Black himself).
Genson convincingly deconstructed the ridiculously simplified analogies presented by the Feds, and without appearing haughty. Speaking of haughty, he also began to gently ridicule Lord Black, noting his pompous demeanor and speaking style. Given that the jury, at least based on appearance, just rolled out of an Old Country Buffet, Genson must effort to make The Baron of Crossharbour palatable to 12 ordinary Americans.
